MeHeLP seeks to enlighten, educate, and inform communities on varied dimensions of mental health, through a short film contest across Kerala. Our objective is to spread public awareness about Mental Health and associated concerns in Kerala with the help of visual media.

We aim to encourage filmmakers in Kerala to create short films within the duration of 4 minutes on the topic,


The films can either be in Malayalam or English.

The festival aims to provide a great opportunity for passionate individuals & filmmakers from all fields and experiences to showcase their work to a very wide range of audiences.

For Keralites & Malayalees outside Kerala.

The films can explore social and cultural perspectives of mental health and mental illness, particularly the Kerala context.

  • Public understanding about living with mental illness.
  • Promote dignity and respect of a person with mental illness. 
  • Stigma around mental illness.
  • How to support people with mental illness.

The films are meant to promote Mental Health literacy & awareness. All the entries are expected to follow our clear content guidelines.

  • Should not ridicule any form of mental illness.
  • Should not violate any individual’s privacy.
  • Should avoid clinical advises & miscommunication on mental health treatments & cure.
  • Should avoid any interviews with professionals advertising or promoting only medical cure/ use of medicine only.
  • Should not promote any private organizations or individuals through the film.
  • Should not have any abusive language/ materials.
  • Care needs to be taken for providing disclosures/disclaimers/Informed consent.
  • The film attempts to raise awareness with respect to mental health literacy.
  • Should not have been submitted elsewhere.


  • All the film submissions must not be longer than 4 minutes (including credits).
  • The films can either be in Malayalam or English.
  • All Malayalam submissions must have subtitles. Malayalam content with English subtitles.
  • Shot on HD using regular cameras or mobile cameras. To be submitted in mp4 format.
  • We require an official trailer, poster and synopsis of the film for submission.
  • Overlay watermarks or other software logos to be avoided on the video.

COPYRIGHT: The Film must not contain any copyrighted work(s) belonging to third parties unless (1) Participants have a license to use such works in the Film; or (2) the use participants’ Film makes of such works is a fair one under the copyright laws. Participants will retain any licenses and provide them to organizers upon request.

Any submission received without satisfying all the above content guidelines & criteria will be summarily rejected.


By submitting your film into competition in the MeHeLP SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2020 (MSFF-2020), you explicitly acknowledge that you are the rightful authorized person to submit the film and agree that you shall be bound by the following Rules & Terms

  1. MSFF-2020 is open to any film completed after January 1, 2020.
  2. Submission of a film to the MSFF-2020 does not guarantee its selection as nomination/ official selection/ award. All films submitted to MSFF-2020 will be reviewed by our panel of jury and the announcement of the nominees/ official selections/ winners will be intimated to the individual filmmakers by email as well listed on our website/ social media profiles.
  3. The MSFF-2020 reserves the right to refuse entries.
  4. The MSFF-2020 will not cover any of the expenses incurred by the filmmaker.
  5. The MSFF-2020 is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted for promotional purposes of the festival. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements, rules, and regulations.
  6. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the MSFF-2020, from and against all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney’s fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred because of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, and publicity.
  7. MSFF-2020 may without advance notice amend these Rules & Terms from time to time. Each such amendment shall become effective immediately. It is the filmmakers’ responsibility to periodically check for updates of these Rules & Terms.
  8. The entry should be submitted by the Participant who may be the rights holder of the film or the person authorized to participate in the contest and accept the terms and conditions. For the purposes of this contest and subsequent distribution of the participating film, the Participant hereby confirms that he/she/it has the necessary rights to submit the entry and accept the terms.
  9. Multiple entries from the same participant are accepted, but each film must be accompanied by a separate form.
  10. The decision of the jury shall be final, unquestionable and binding on all participants.


  1. All filmmakers understand and accept that if their film is nominated/ accepted for screening at the film festival, they grant full and unrestricted permission for MSFF-2020 to screen the film at times of the festival’s choice.
  2. The Filmmaker understands and accepts that they do not participate in receiving any funds from the screening proceeds which are fully retained by the festival.
  3. The Filmmaker accepts and understands that the festival will do everything possible to present the films in the best possible manner but the festival (MSFF-2020) is not responsible for any malfunctions during the presentation of the production at its screening. All entries are carefully pre-screened before the publishing to assure that the screenings do perform to the industry standards.
  4. The Film Festival (MSFF-2020) reserves the complete right to make changes in the program dates and times and to possibly not screen the film, despite its being selected for screening.
  5. The Filmmaker understands that the festival will take every possible measure to protect and control the viewing of their entry/ screener link. The festival assumes no liability whatsoever for theft, copyright violations or piracy of the entry.
